History Channel - Original Air Date: 1/13/10
MQ looks at "the largest and most terrifying predator on earth." Yes, they've apparently forgotten about the Sperm Whale or the Giant Squid, they're talking about sharks, specifically, Great Whites. They claim beasts up to 25' long have been spotted (official estimates are less). There are the usual frightening shark attack stories, and the usual histories and interesting scientific bits. They also compare sharks to human muggers and serial killers, in terms of their tactics. Are sharks coming closer to shore, or are people becoming more aware of them? MQ sends a team to California to put a camera on a shark, to find out more about them. They also hook up with a Massachusetts doctor trying to satellite tag a great white -- he succeeds, running into an unexpected congregation of the creatures. The California team gets their camera on the shark, but it doesn't stay attached for more than a few minutes. The camera looks too bulky to go unnoticed, to me, and the team reaches the same conclusion. While another interesting investigation and information show in the MQ series, they never come near the purported 25-foot sharks of the title.
